In what proved a successful publicity exercise White Star had the Olympic depart for Southampton on May 31 1911 the very same day of the Titanic's launch. The Titanic's last survivor, Eliza Gladys "Millvina" Dean, died in 2009 also on May 31st .

Not many people seem to know that the first collision the Olympic was involved in happened in New York during her maiden voyage. At one point the pilot ordered a sudden reverse on her port engine and with that she drew a tug in (the O L Hallenbeck) The case went to court but it was dismissed for lack of evidence; no one saw it for what it really was, namely a case of suction. The press treated the whole thing as "good clean fun" and only the tug's owner seemed really annoyed

The Olympic was the world's largest ship before the Titanic and again briefly between the Titanic's sinking and June 1913 when Germany's SS Imperator began service. She was however the largest British-built liner all the way until the launch of the Queen Mary in September 1934

It’s incredible that the Titanic had barely lost buoyancy for the first two hours of this video and the situation was mostly calm. The final 15 minutes is where 90% of the sinking actually happened.

I''m on the titanic with all the knowledge i have now. I run around in the interior as it floods, looking for objects that have bouyancy.. I run them up to the forecastle as i find them, once i have enough i tie it all together and hop on. Do I survive you think?

This is incredible, every update and year it gets better and better, two things i would say is in the dinning room and staircase flooding scene is a little dark and would love to see more of it, and second, i would love to see the bow slowly go under like in your previous videos and the 1997 movie, apart from that all good well done lads

Can anyone help me with a question? I saw the Titanic "drain the oceans" special on NatGeo and they stated there, very clearly, that Titanic broke in half after it sunk, not over water, yet this animation and similar others maintain the over water theory. Has this been solved? Thanks

I have heard on a few other docs that the interior designs in the Titanic and Olympic were not really innovative; Ken Marschall even goes as far as to say that they were "quite pedestrian". They were based on those of older ships and were elaborated on so they were according to one of the narrators "evolutionary, not revolutionary". I still like the interiors of both ships though

Here's why the Titanic's story will just never die: (1) she was the world's biggest movable man-made object of her day, (2) she excelled in luxury, (3) she was on her maiden voyage (of all voyages), (4) there were many celebrities of the day on board, (5) there was already a lot of talk about all her features before she was ever launched (including the whole "unsinkability" talk), (6) she was the world's newest ocean liner of her time and (7) the Titanic is the first or maybe the only ship thus far in living memory to be sunk by an iceberg. It seems the Titanic will always be in our minds despite herself; unlike the ship itself, the story remains unsinkable

Hey.. if you read this comment... one thing this old Coast Guardsman noticed was the ships forward binnacle. On either side you appropriately placed the masses for adjusting for any deviation caused by the ship to the compass... but... there isn't really any adjustment. There should be more than a hole for these masses as they need to actually be... well... adjusted. One thing you could do that might assist people in really geeking out on this small point is to perhaps get some images of the ship's compass on the wreck and see if you can see where these are actually adjusted to in the tracks. I have even sometimes seen it where one of these masses was turned upside down. Again, the purpose of them was to adjust for deviation... magnetic declination caused by the mass of the ship. They would do what ever they needed to to get this right. It would be fun to see them not only be able to be adjusted... but to actually be where they were on the actual titanic binnacle.

It is currently 1:30 in the morning. I didn't go to sleep only to watch this video in its entirety. I regret it. This is so well done, well described with terrifying quotes from the survivors that the sleep I'm about to get won't help me at all. Still an absolutely incredible work of course, but I am terrified.

I never knew the clock figure carvings had names, hence the name of VDR's project i'm guessing. Interesting.
